Live Communications Server 2003 Overview
Live Communications Server 2003 provides your business with enterprise-ready instant messaging (IM), presence awareness, and an extensible platform that connects people, information, and business processes—enabling better decisions faster. With a familiar user experience integrated into Microsoft Office System programs, Live Communications Server 2003 allows people to communicate without the constraints of geography, office location, or time zone.
Connect People and Information in Real Time
Enable employees to communicate with each other instantly—without leaving the program in which they are working. Live Communications Server 2003 provides presence awareness within desktop and line-of-business applications, and uses the familiar Windows Messenger 5.0 client. Encrypt server-to-server IM traffic and client-to-server traffic using Transport Layer Security (TLS) or Real-Time Transfer Protocol (RTP). Manage user authentication and permissions with the Active Directory® directory service. Monitor traffic with Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM); Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-ins, or any management console that is compliant with Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).
Extensible Development Platform
Develop customized real-time communication solutions that include chat, video and audio conferencing, data collaboration, and telephony, and integrate them into your line-of-business applications. Live Communications Server 2003 is built on industry-standard protocols, such as Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE), and includes a rich set of application programming interfaces (APIs).
