The Scalar 1000 library solves capacity problems by growing easily and cost effectively from a single-module library up to a four-module library supporting several hundred cartridges. The Scalar 1000’s modular expansion is simple and inexpensive because it uses a single robotic system across all modules.
The Scalar 1000 control module, which can also serve as a self-contained library, is configured for several drive bays. Magstar, LTO or DLT drives can be used alternatively. Each expansion module is configured either for tape storage only or with drive bays. Mixed-media operation is possible with different drive technology installation on a module-by-module basis. When fewer drive bays are required, the modules are designed to provide room for more media. Changing configurations is easy because the drive bay and cartridge capacity of any module can be easily reconfigured and increased in the field.
